I am directed to inform you that the Secretary of State for the Colonies has approved the adoption of the majority of the recommendations made by the Hong Kong Salaries Commission, 1947, relating to salaries and allowances. Copies of the Commission's Report are available in Departments for inspection.
2. The new terms and conditions of service will be Effective brought into effect as from 1st January, 1947.

4. Your option will be a single option covering salary Limitation (including payment of rent if Government quarters are made available to you), prescribed allowances and pension and gratuity. The Salaries Commission's recommenda- tions regarding leave, length of tour, passages, etc. are still under consideration and all modifications in the terms and conditions of service other than in regard to salaries, prescribed allowances, pension and gratuity, will be applied irrespective of option to the service generally in the form finally agreed upon by the Secretary of State and will be brought into effect by amendment of the appropriate administrative regulations and orders, viz., General Orders, Secretariat circulars, etc., which, as you are aware, are subject to modification at any time.
5. Two forms will be sent to you through your Head Exercise of of Department. Form A will give you particulars of the option. estimated revised emoluments for which you will be
